{"id":101,"date":"2007-09-07T11:48:26","date_gmt":"2007-09-07T16:48:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dilettantes.code4lib.org\/about-me\/"},"modified":"2025-11-17T12:49:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T17:49:20","slug":"about-me","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rossfsinger.me\/blog\/about-me\/","title":{"rendered":"About me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"aboutme\"><span class=\"section_heading\"><strong>About Me<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"me\" class=\"vcard\">\n<p>My name is <span class=\"fn\">Ross Singer<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Professionally, I am <em class=\"title\">Interoperability and Open Standards Champion<\/em> at <a class=\"organization-name\" href=\"http:\/\/talis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"foaf:workplaceHomepage noopener\">Talis<\/a>.\u00a0 No, I&#8217;m not entirely sure what this means, either.\u00a0 My boss thinks of me as a business analyst of sorts although I write code (preferably in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruby-lang.org\/\" rel=\"foaf:interest\">Ruby<\/a>) most of my day.\u00a0 The things I write are mostly experiments and proofs-of-concept, however, so there may be something to this.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, I was an application developer at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.gatech.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia Tech&#8217;s library<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/web.library.emory.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emory University libraries<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.utk.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Tennessee libraries<\/a>.\u00a0 I also worked a shortish stint for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">internet.com<\/a> between Tennessee and Emory, but my career has definitely centered primarily around libraries and library technology.<\/p>\n<p>While at Georgia Tech I founded <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/group\/malta-atl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MALTA<\/a> (the Metro Atlanta Library Technology Association) where like-minded library technology people in the Atlanta area get together and talk about the projects they are working on.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, my wife, <a href=\"http:\/\/selenasside.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener spouse\">Selena<\/a>, and I have two children, <a href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/selena_s\/2980045906\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"child noopener\">Isaac<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/selena_s\/5295112527\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"child noopener\">Isabel<\/a>.\u00a0 We have a dog, <a href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/selena_s\/420506359\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ava<\/a>, and a cat, <a href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/selena_s\/428791961\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ichabod<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 We live in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chattanooga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chattanooga<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tennessee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tennessee<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.st-elmo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"foaf:based_near noopener\">St. Elmo Historic District<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Educationally, I have a Bachelor of Arts in <a href=\"http:\/\/theatre.utk.edu\/\" rel=\"foaf:schoolHomepage\">Theatre<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utk.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Tennessee<\/a>.
